The Doctor of Physical Therapy program (DPT) is an entry-level program for persons who wish to become physical therapists.  The DPT is accredited by The Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education.  The DPT is a 3 calendar year graduate program that begins in June, and includes summer sessions each year (Year I - Anatomy course, Years II and III - clinical internships).  Students graduate with the DPT degree in May.  A maximum of 45 students are enrolled in the DPT program each year.

Enrollment Requirements - To be enrolled in the DPT program, all applicants must have completed a bachelor's degree with an overall cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0.  They must have completed all DPT prerequisites with grades of at least C (see the DPT Prerequisites link at right for more information).

There are multiple pathways for admission to the DPT program.

Exceptional high school applicants can apply for a guaranteed seat in the DPT program at the time of undergraduate application to The University of Scranton. Guaranteed seat students must re-confirm their intent to enroll in the DPT program each undergraduate year. Eventual enrollment in the DPT program requires that guaranteed seat students successfully complete the enrollment requirements stated above.  Note that there is no undergraduate major in physical therapy at The University of Scranton.  Although any undergraduate major is acceptable (as long as the DPT prerequisites have been met), Exercise Science, Biology, and Neuroscience (Psychology) are undergraduate majors that facilitate careers in physical therapy and  accomplishment of the DPT prerequisites. Contact Admissions for more information. (see link above).

Undergraduate students already enrolled at The University of Scranton but who do not have a guaranteed seat in the DPT program can apply for admission on a competitive, seat available basis. The enrollment requirements stated above must be completed before enrollment in the DPT Program. Contact Admissions for more information. (see link above).

Transfer students from other institutions are encouraged to apply for admission on a competitive, seat available basis.  The enrollment requirements stated above must be completed before enrollment in the DPT Program. Contact Admissions for more information. (see link above).
