Faculty and Staff

The Occupational Therapy Faculty are dedicated professionals involved in teaching, research, and service. Their clinical and educational expertise represents a cross section of diverse practice areas across the developmental continuum in both traditional and contemporary practice areas. The faculty frequently present at state, national, and international conferences, and they have published numerous books, chapters, articles, and assessment instruments in the field. The OT faculty are accessible and available to students on a routine basis, they maintain an open door policy, and they foster student involvement in research, teaching, and service activities through close, mentoring relationships.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Sanko has been teaching at the University of Scranton since 1990. He has teaching interests including cardiovascular and pulmonary physical therapy, exercise physiology, and research. His scholarship interests include heart rate and blood pressure variability and sports injuries. He is a member of the American Physical Therapy Association, Pennsylvania Physical Therapy Association, and American College of Sports Medicine. He is the Vice President and on the Board of Directors at United Cerebral Palsy of Northeast Pennsylvania. He also enjoys being the secretary and an EMT at the Moscow Volunteer Fire Company.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Brady is a full-time faculty member in the Occupational Therapy Department. She received a B.A. in Communications from Mansfield University, an Associate Degree in Health Science (COTA) from Trident Technical College in Charleston, South Carolina, a Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from College Misericordia and a doctorate in Adult Education from Penn State University. Karen's clinical experience includes both direct client care and management positions. She has worked in a variety of practice settings including acute, rehabilitation, out patient, substance abuse, and long term care. Prior to her full-time appointment, she taught part-time at the University of Scranton while holding the position of Rehabilitation Program Manager at the Carbondale Nursing Home. Her background also includes over ten years of Karen is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association. Her educational and research interests include curriculum design and implementation, theoretical concepts in occupational therapy and the use of technology in teaching and promoting occupational therapy.

Research and Teaching Interests: Lisa Burns is the clinical education coordinator for the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University of Scranton. She received a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Indiana University and her Master of Arts degree in Theology from the University of Scranton. Lisa has been involved in the field of Occupational Therapy for over fifteen years. She previously held positions in a variety of settings including post acute rehabilitation, out patient services, home health care, rehabilitation staff management and administration. Her background also includes experience with the United States military. Lisa is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association. Her research interests include the role of spirituality in rehabilitation and ethical responsibilities in healthcare.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Coté is a full time faculty member. She joined the Occupational Therapy Department in 2008 after over 20 years of clinical work in schools and in private practice. She has a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from Kean University, a Master of Arts in Learning Disabilities from Montclair State University and a Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from Rutgers University. Dr. Coté’s primary research interests are in developmental differences of visual perception and visual-motor skills in school-aged children. She is the author of the chapter "Development of Visual Attention" in the AOTA publication, Vision issues in pediatrics: A guide for therapist, and has had research published in occupational therapy, education and psychology journals. She has made numerous conference presentations in the fields of occupational therapy and developmental psychology.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Fleming-Castaldy received her Doctor of Philosophy, post-professional Master of Arts, and undergraduate degrees in Occupational Therapy (OT) from New York University, New York, NY. She brings over 30 years of clinical and academic experience to her teaching position. Dr. Fleming-Castaldy has authored numerous text chapters and journal articles and presented nationally and internationally on a diversity of professional issues. Her areas of expertise include disability rights and advocacy, professional development, the role of OT in mental health practice, and the national OT certification examination. Dr. Fleming-Castaldy is the editor of the National OT Certification Review and Study Guide, the National OT Assistant Certification Review and Study Guide, and other professional publications. She serves on the editorial boards of the American Journal of Occupational Therapy and Occupational Therapy in Mental Health and as an instructor for the leading national OT examination preparation course. Dr. Fleming-Castaldy is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the World Federation of OT, the New York State OT Association and numerous professional advocacy and consumer organizations. In 2002, she received the honor of being named a Fellow to the American Occupational Therapy Association for innovation and leadership in education and advocacy. Many of Dr. Fleming-Castaldy's works are referenced under her former name of Fleming Cottrell.

Research and Teaching Interests: Professor Lambert is a full-time faculty member in the Occupational Therapy Department. He joined the department in 2009 after 22 years of practice in the mental health field. He received a B.A. with a double major in English and Psychology from King’s College, a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from College Misericordia and a Master of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Scranton. Bill's clinical experience includes practice in a variety of inpatient and outpatient mental health settings. He continues to maintain a small private practice providing therapy in his area of expertise, child and adolescent mental health, and has presented at conferences and lectured frequently on the subject. He has authored and co-authored chapters “Mental Health of Children” and “Mental Health of Adolescents” in both editions of the textbook Psychosocial Occupational Therapy: A Clinical Practice. His educational and research interests are child and adolescent mental health, general mental health and professional issues and establishing a research base for interventions used in mental health occupational therapy. He is on the editorial board of Occupational Therapy in Healthcare. Bill is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association, the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association, and the World Federation of Occupational Therapists.

Research and Teaching Interests: Molly Mika is an Assistant Professor of Occupational Therapy at The University of Scranton. She graduated from College Misericordia, Dallas, PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy and a Master of Science degree in Education with a concentration in technology. She practiced occupational therapy for 10 years full-time in an adult rehabilitation setting. She held positions as a clinical supervisor and student fieldwork coordinator. She has been teaching occupational therapy at the professional level full-time for 5 years. She continues to practice occupational therapy on a per diem basis with a home health care agency. Molly is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Human Development with a concentration in Health Promotion from Marywood University, Scranton, PA. Molly's research interests include service provision for older adults living in the community; effective use of occupation as a primary treatment modality in traditional and emerging areas of occupational therapy practice and critical thinking and clinical reasoning development in occupational therapy students in the classroom, community and during fieldwork.

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Marlene Morgan is a full time faculty member in the Department of Occupational Therapy at the University. She received a B.S. degree in Biology from The Pennsylvania State University, a masters degree in occupational therapy (MOT) from Texas Woman’s University and a doctorate in Educational Administration and Policy Studies from Temple University. Dr. Morgan brings over 25 years of academic and clinical experience to the University. She has held a number of academic positions including appointments at Temple University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and Rush University in Chicago, Illinois. Her clinical experiences include a combination of patient care and administrative responsibilities at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, The Rush System for Health in Chicago and The Children’s Seashore House. Dr. Morgan’s current teaching responsibilities include geriatrics, physical rehabilitation practice, and research. Her current research interests are in the areas of maintaining independence in community dwelling seniors through the use of home modifications; and interdisciplinary education in the health professions. Dr. Morgan has published and presented nationally and internationally. She is a co-author of The Safe Home Checkout: Easy Assessment/Simple Solutions and a co-editor of A Practitioner’s Guide to Clinical Occupational Therapy. Dr. Morgan is a member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association (POTA).

Research and Teaching Interests: Dr. Reinson is a full-time faculty member. She received an A.A.S. in Human Services from Herkimer County Community College, a B.S. in Occupational Therapy from Utica College of Syracuse University, a MS in Special Education from the State University of New York at New Paltz, and her Ph.D. in Special Education, Teaching and Leadership at Syracuse University. Carol's occupational therapy career encompasses more than 25 years of combined clinical and educational experience in early childhood special education, school-based occupational therapy services, with a recent specialization in early intervention (EI). Her research interests include early childhood special education and the role of related services in inclusive settings, play-based assessment, and the study of developmentally vulnerable at risk infants and young children and their families. She is a co-author of the EI assessment instrument, Partners in Play: Assessing Infants and Toddlers in Natural Contexts and designed an accompanying On-Line Companion for Thomson Delmar Learning (2006). Carol has primary responsibility for teaching pediatrics and research courses. She utilizes an integrated curriculum design model that supports faculty practice, mentoring of pre-professional students within an interdisciplinary framework, and student-centered community-based participatory research. In Spring, 2006 she instituted a new pediatric assessment course that works with “real” clients through the Leahy Community Health and Family Center (LCHFC). The LCHFC is an interdisciplinary center designed to provide free health, wellness, and educational services on a short-term basis to underserved children with special needs and their families. Carol maintains many diverse professional affiliations. Additionally, she is actively involved in faculty exchanges in several developing countries to promote social justice and cultural competency.

Additional Information: Mary Ann received her B.S. in Sociology from the University of Scranton. She has been employed in the Department of Occupational Therapy since its inception. Prior to working as the Secretary for the Department of Occupational Therapy, she was at the University's Alumni Relations Office for 20 years. Mary Ann enjoys meeting with and assisting OT majors, and continues to be a valuable resource person to the department.

Additional Information: Mary recently relocated to Pennsylvania from Massapequa, New York. Prior to joining the staff of the Occupational Therapy Department as a part-time secretary, she served as a Media Director, and also as Secretary for the Coordinator of Persons with Disabilities s for 7 years, at the Diocese of Rockville Centre, New York. Mary looks forward to meeting and working with all of our occupational therapy students.
