Education News:
Michelle D'’Allesandro receives Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association’s scholarshipThe first Northeastern Pennsylvania Reading Association’s (NPRA) scholarship was awarded at the Ramada in Clarks Summit during its spring meeting. The event began with a brunch served to the members as they shared in conversation. Immediately following the brunch, Joan Lengel, NPRA scholarship committee chair, awarded the scholarship to Michelle D’Allesandro, a University of Scranton early and primary education major. Michelle is a Dean’s List student from Huntington, NY and is an active member of a variety of activities and organizations within the university community. Accompanying her was University Professor Sandy Pesavento, whose letter of recommendation noted that Michelle was the first student to volunteer to deliver a very engaging reading lesson via videoconference to students in Massachusetts. This is just one example of Michelle going above and beyond for all assignments which qualified her for the scholarship.
Upon accepting the award, Michelle stated that “the love and excitement I have about teaching radiates from within me. This scholarship will help me on this wonderful journey because it has been a dream of mine since I was young to become a teacher.” NPRA is a professional organization for individuals from Lackawanna, Pike, Susquehanna, Wayne, and Wyoming counties who are devoted to the improvement of all aspects of reading and provide guidance in areas in which reading is vital to educators, students, and parents. The scholarship was established by the group to help an education major with materials during their student teaching.
