Assessment 

What are students learning in the Panuska College of Professional Studies?

The University of Scranton is fully accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools, 3624 Market St., Philadelphia, PA 19104, 215-662-5606.

The most valuable information to determine the quality of education comes from outcomes assessment within our PCPS academic departments.  In the Panuska College of Professional Studies, five out of the six departments in PCPS have programs with specialized accreditation. Each accrediting organization engages in external reviews or site visits every 5-10 years.  Many of our accrediting organizations have previously reviewed academic programs housed in PCPS.  A list of the past dates of visit and names of accrediting organizations was compiled and reads as follows:

  • The Department of Health Administration and Human Resources: (AUPHA) Association of University Programs in Health Administration, Accreditation through 2011 and (CAHME) Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education. Site visit during 06-07, and (NAB) National Association of Boards of Examiners of Long Term Care Adm. Review took place 2006-07.


  • The Department of Counseling and Rehabilitation: (CACREP) Council for Accreditation of Counseling & Related Educational Programs, Accreditation through October 31, 2009 and (CORE) Council on Rehabilitation Education. Need to reapply during AY 2014/2015. (CSHSE) Council for Standards in Human Service Education, Accreditation period Oct. 2011 - Oct. 2016.


  • The Department of Nursing: (CCNE) Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, 06-07,  full accreditation has been awarded for a 10 year period, (10/2007) B.S. accreditation through 2012 and (CANAEP)Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Education Programs. Site visit Spring 2012.


  • Departments of Occupational and Physical Therapy: (ACOT) Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy, Site Visit 2013-2014 and (CAPTE) Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education, Site visit spring 2009.  CAPTE approved accreditation through June 30, 2018.


  • Department of Education: (NCATE) National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education.  Next visit is scheduled for Fall 2012 and (PDE) Pennsylvania Department of Education.  Next visit will be 2013. Last site visit was Spring 2005.

PCPS uses a variety of outcome measures and evaluation procedures to maintain and renew the quality of its curriculum and the overall organizational structure and activities of the college.

Learning Goals - Learning goals are overarching statements about desired achievements within a program or department.
