Minors

Courses counted in the major may not count toward the first 15 credits of a minor. However, courses counting in the cognate or general education (GE) requirements may be used toward a minor. Courses in the minor that are not used in the cognate or general education requirements may be used as free electives. The links below contain suggestions on how to fit minors in to the general education curriculum to reduce the number of credits a student needs for a minor.

Often it is necessary to keep spaces open in the general education requirements to allow the student to use requirements for a minor. Students should be encouraged to plan their schedules with the minor requirements in mind.

Students with declared minors will have the requirements for the minor on their CAPP reports therefore it is beneficial for students to declare the minor as soon as possible. Students should complete a Change of Curriculum form from the Registrars Office and obtain signatures from their advisor, the chair of the minor's department and the CAS Associate Dean.

Remember that all writing intensive courses, except those in foreign languages, have prerequisite of WRTG 107 or WRTG 105 & 106.
