November 2, 2012 Dear Students, Faculty, Staff and Parents,
While
Hurricane Sandy left unprecedented destruction across several states in its
wake, we are grateful that the campus received little damage and no
interruption in power. Many of our students, however, live in areas that were
significantly affected by the storm, and we want to support them during this
difficult time.
Students
who need assistance with personal, financial or academic concerns should
contact the Office of Student Affairs at (570) 941-7680. Given that individual
needs may vary significantly, members of the Student Affairs and Campus
Ministry staffs will help you determine which University office or department
might best be able to assist. The University Counseling Center on the second
floor of McGurrin Hall is also available for personal support by calling (570)
941-7620 to secure an emergency walk-in appointment time.
It is
gratifying to learn that, in typical Scranton fashion, members of our community
are asking about ways in which we can do more to help those affected so badly
by this storm. Students interested in volunteering or helping in some way
should first contact the Office of Student Affairs at (570) 941-7680. The
Student Affairs staff will work closely with the Center for Service & Social
Justice, which is coordinating the volunteer response from the University. As
specific outreach efforts are identified, we will provide additional
information.
Finally,
our thoughts and prayers remain with our students, parents, alumni, faculty,
staff and all the communities that are recovering from this profound disaster. Campus
Ministry invites everyone to a special Mass to pray for those who have lost
lives, loved ones, homes and possessions. The Mass will be held Wednesday, November 7, at noon in
Madonna della Strada Chapel.
Sincerely,
Kevin P. Quinn, S.J.
President
